Spring Term 2 Week 2

Miss Booth - 08 Mar 2024

Back to our usual Friday updates this week!

These are this week's notices:
  • Parental Consultations for Year 2 will be on Tuesday 19th of March. Booking has now opened. Year 2 children will not be invited into the meetings but they will be able to sit outside the meeting room on a chair while it takes place (for before/after school appointments only).
  • Year Two have their Spring Term assessment week next week. Assessments will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Please ensure children are in on time, well fed and raring to go! It will be lovely to share their progress with you at Parental Consultations!
  • 2B's reading records will be checked on Monday.

Maths
We have started a new block focusing on measuring mass, capacity and temperature. So far we have compared mass and measured in grams.

To support your child's learning, please ensure they are regularly accessing Times Table Rockstars at home, and please monitor the speed at which they answer questions. A time of under six seconds per question is the expected standard. All children now have access to the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in the garage mode.

Children who are not fluent with these times tables will struggle to pass their assessments in May.

Children who prove they know these times tables to a high degree of fluency (less than 6 seconds per response) will have the three times-tables unlocked on Times Table Rockstars.

English
We have have continued our unit of work focusing on recounts. Children are writing a recount about our Educational Visit to Colchester Castle. This will form a key element of your child's writing assessment which we will report to you at Parental Consultations and in their end of year report.

History
This week we looked at famous towers from around the world. We found where they are located on a world map and then indicated which city they can be found in.
