Spring Term 2 Week 1

Miss Booth - 29 Feb 2024

This week we have an earlier than usual update due to our Educational Visit to Colchester Castle taking place on Friday.

These are this week's notices:
  • Thank-you to all who have attended our Shared Learning afternoon.
  • PE will take place twice next week due to the children missing their PE this week due to their school trip. PE lessons will be on Tuesday 5th March and Friday 8th March. Children must wear their PE kit to school on these days.
  • A weekly times-table assessment (focusing on multiplying and dividing by 2, 5 and 10) will take place weekly on the same day as the weekly spelling assessment. Children will be given 6 seconds between questions to mentally work out the answer and write it into the answer box.
  • Parental Consultations for Year 2 will be on Tuesday 19th of March. Booking will open nearer the time. Year 2 children will not be invited into the meetings but they will be able to sit outside the meeting room on a chair while it takes place (for before/after school appointments only).

Maths
We have started a new block focusing on measuring length and height. So far we have measured in centimetres and metres, and have compared lengths and heights.

To support your child's learning, please ensure they are regularly accessing Times Table Rockstars at home, and please monitor the speed at which they answer questions. A time of under six seconds per question is the expected standard. All children now have access to the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in the garage mode.

Children who are not fluent with these times tables will struggle to pass their assessments in May.

English
We have been begun a unit of work focusing on recounts. Children will write a recount about our Educational Visit to Colchester Castle. In preparation for this we have studied past tense verbs, possessive apostrophes and personal pronouns.

Science
We studied plants. We named the parts of a plant and discussed the difference between fruits and vegetables.

History
This week we looked at a range of castles that have been constructed over time. Working in a group, we put the castles in chronological order and had to justify our reasoning to our classmates.
