Spring 1 Week 7

Miss Booth - 16 Feb 2024

This week we have been completing our units of work and some assessments. These assessments will inform our teaching and the level of individual support children will recieve in the run up to the end of Key Stage 1 assessments later this year.

These are this week's notices:
  • Thank-you to all who have so kindly volunteered to accompany us on our educational visit to Colchester Castle. The parents who have been randomly selected have been notified.
  • We currently have another visit booked for the Summer term to Southend Beach and the Sealife Centre. Information about this will be sent to you nearer the time.
  • Parental Consultations for Year 2 will be on Tuesday 19th of March. Booking will open nearer the time.
  • Reading assessments were finalised this week. Your child's reading book band colour may change in the first week back after half term. Children who have completed the phonics program will now have daily comprehension lessons with their normal class teacher.
  • Year 2's Shared Learning is on Tuesday 27th February between 1:45 and 2:45. One adult per child is permitted and no younger siblings are permitted.

Maths
We have completed our block that focused on multiplication and division. We finished off the week by completing some practice arithmetic papers - lots of work needed there!

To support your child's learning, please ensure they are regularly accessing Times Table Rockstars at home, and please monitor the speed at which they answer questions. A time of under six seconds per question is the expected standard. All children now have access to the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in the garage mode.

Children who are not fluent with these times tables will struggle to pass their assessments in May.

English
We have been working in groups to perform poetry to the class. This was fun but very noisy!

Science
We studied the life cycle of a frog. We then compared the life cycle to a human life cycle and noted down the similarities and differences.
