Mrs Shah update
20 Jun 2025
It has been a hot and sticky week in Year 1, but the children have continued to work incredibly hard—well done!
In English, we practised using adjectives to describe characters, and then wrote a character description of Grandad from
Grandad's Island. This was our independent writing task, and the children performed brilliantly.
In Maths, we continued exploring numbers up to 100 by counting in tens, using a number line, and partitioning numbers into tens and ones.
In RE, we focused on christenings in Christianity. The children were able to identify who performs the ceremony and some of its key features.
In History, we looked at the Victorian era. The children learned that Queen Victoria was the monarch at the time, explored some inventions from that period, and discussed how rich and poor Victorians lived.
In science, the children continued exploring traditional tales – this time it was the turn of, The Princess and the Pea. We tested different mattress fillings to see if we could feel the pea beneath them. The children had a wonderful time exploring the different fillings and completing some comparative testing.
Today, we enjoyed our annual Sports Day. The children all did their best, cheered on their friends, and showed good sportsmanship whether winning or losing. It was a fantastic morning!
