Year 1 Summer 1 Week 2

28 Apr 2022

English
In English this week, Year 1 have still been focusing on our class text Miss Molly’s School of Manners. The children began by sequencing the story. Then, they looked at the features of a diary as next week they will be writing their own diary entry in the character of Algernon. Next, the children practised writing in past tense and first person just like you would for a diary.

Maths
At the beginning of the week, the children continued to practise using a ruler and measuring accurately. Towards the end of the week, they looked at comparing weight and mass and had fun testing out which objects were heavier using scales. They will continue to focus on weight and mass next week too.

Other
In Art, the children learned about primary and secondary colours. Then they had the opportunity to experiment with colour mixing which was very exciting! For our School Days topic, the children compared life in the Victorian era to life now. The children learned that the reigning monarch was Queen Victoria and they focused on the life of rich Victorians, poor Victorians and what they did during their leisure time. In addition, they learnt about inventions from the Victorian era and that lots of them are still used now!
