Well done for a great first week back, Year 5!

This week, in Maths, we started our new topic on perimeter and area. Most of the children have had a basic understanding of what perimeter and area are, but lots have been struggling with adding more than two numbers together at a time. We have been doing lots of practise in school but please ensure you are practising this at home, too.

In English, we have completed a performance poetry unit. This has involved the children reading an array of different poems aloud, both in groups and individually. We have been really focusing on our physical oracy skills, ensuring that we read with expression, gestures, and the correct pitch/pace/volume. The children also wrote their own poems in groups and performed them to the class- they were great!

In Science, we began our new topic on living things and their habitats. We had a fantastic first lesson, where the children recapped their leearning on animal classes, the meaning of vertebrate/invertebrate and animal life cycles. The children really impressed us with their extensive knowledge of animals.

We also got to visit Reception to have a reading session with the children. It was a lovely afternoon and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

On Thursday, we had a special visit from some students at Haris Academy, who ran language learning sessions with the children- it was a fun and informative afternoon!

Happy weekend, please ensure you are reading at least 5 times a week at home and visiting TTRS for at least 5 minutes.
