Reception Week 4 Summer 1 - Splash!

Mrs Divall - 10 May 2023

In maths, we have been practising subtracting.  We have had a dinosaur visit who liked to eat different quantities of food.  We wrote the number sentences, pretending to be the teacher!  You could play this game at home. 😊

This week in topic, we told the children that they are going to create model boats and test them to see how well they float.  We had a science experiment all about floating and sinking.
We offered a range of junk modelling materials, including plastic trays, containers and bottles, foil trays, tape, glue and sticky tack.  The children really enjoyed this activity!

We will also be learning about different kinds of water. We will watch the Why is water wet? video to introduce the children to the project and explain to the children that they are going to be exploring different forms of water e.g. ice, water in water tray, bubbles, water in balloons.
We will listen to the Hopscotch song “The Water Cycle” on Youtube.

We have reset our classrooms to offer some new opportunities for the children.  RD has become a Baby Clinic, Library and Topic Zone and RS has become Art, Construction, Small World and Maths.  The children have equal access to both areas and we continue to develop our outdoor space.  We are looking in particular for donations of any old plastic food, teapots/teacups/babies/baby bottles/clean unused nappies/baby wipes/blankets/baby clothes/cots.
