Spring 1 week 7

16 Feb 2024

It is the end of half term! Well done for a fantastic 7 weeks, Year 4.

This week, in Maths, we have started our new unit on Fractions. It has been a tricky start to the unit, with new concepts being introduced such as mixed numbers and improper fractions. However, the children have shown true resilience and worked very hard during our Maths lessons, and have produced some fantastic work.

In English, the children completed their first and then final drafts of their newspaper reports. The children were reporting on a large storm that had swept through Rainham, and had caused carnage! Newspaper articles are one of the more challenging genres of writing, but the class created some brilliant pieces of work, using grammer features such as inverted commas for direct speech.

During our Science lessons, we have continued looking at Sound. This week, the children focussed on the difference in high and low pitched sounds, and how they are made. To consolidate their work, they designed their own musical instrument, and discussed what materials they would use for each part and why.

Have a lovely half-term!
