Mrs Shah’s update

06 Mar 2026

It has been a wonderfully busy week in Year 2 this week as we approach the end of week 2 of Spring term 2.

English

In English, the children have begun exploring our new text, Rapunzel. We have been looking closely at the settings of traditional fairy tales and how these influence the tone and mood of a story. The children have produced some fantastic descriptive sentences, focussing on expanded noun phrases, creating their own spooky settings with impressive vocabulary and imagination.

Maths

In Maths, we have been moving quickly through our curriculum and have now completed our unit on measurement, mass, capacity and volume. The children worked hard on their end‑of‑unit assessments and should feel very proud of their progress. Today, we begin our brand‑new unit on fractions, which the children are already excited about.

World Book Day

This Wednesday, we celebrated World Book Day. The children looked brilliant in their creative costumes and enjoyed a day filled with reading‑themed activities. Our focus book was from the Little People, Big Dreams series, all about Marcus Rashford. We explored his achievements, his determination, and the inspiring message of never giving up on your dreams.

Colchester Castle Trip

On Thursday, we had our much‑anticipated trip to Colchester Castle. The children travelled by coach and had an amazing time exploring the castle, discovering its fascinating features, and even acting as soldiers charging and defending a fortress. They took part in engaging activities and enjoyed time in the beautiful castle grounds, all in the lovely spring sunshine.

Next Week

Next week is assessment week across the school. We will be off timetable while the children complete their in‑class assessments. Thank you for your continued support.
