Mr Ahmed's class update
17 Apr 2026
Year 2 have settled beautifully back into school this week after the half-term break and have returned with a great attitude towards their learning.
In English, the children wrote fantastic recounts about their half-term holidays. They worked hard to write events in the correct order, use time conjunctions and include interesting details about their experiences. We have also begun our new unit on fables, exploring their key features and messages. The children enjoyed reading The Ant and the Grasshopper and watching the short film The Bridge, using both to discuss characters’ choices and the morals behind the stories.
In Maths, we continued our work on fractions, building on our understanding of halves, thirds and quarters. The children are becoming increasingly confident when recognising and describing fractions and are continuing to work hard to deepen their understanding.
In Science, we started our new topic on plants. The children enjoyed their first lesson, where they learned to identify and label the different parts of a plant and began discussing the role each part plays.
In History and Art, we launched our new topic, ‘Magnificent Monarchs’. The children have begun learning about famous kings and queens of England and are looking forward to finding out more about their lives and their impact on history.
Well done to Year 2 for such a positive start to the term – we are looking forward to an exciting few weeks ahead!
Just a quick remidner that spellings are sent home every Friday to be practised over the week as spelling tests happen every Friday. Please encourage your children to practise these at home to support their progress!
