Bike Rides for Cycling Families

13 Jul 2023

Weve been asked to pass on the following information ...

Just a heads up about these two LED bikes rides (almost completely traffic free) just after the holidays start on Saturday 22 July, designed to suit cycling families or those wanting to explore a little further on their bikes with children from the age of as young as 5 if they are confident and have loads of energy. My son did this return journey of around 30km/18miles (in reverse) when he was 4.75 years old due to the endless puddles we encountered after a huge thunderstorm we got caught in half way through.

Getting to the Bird Sanctuary in the Rainham Marshes is possible within an hour by the District and C2C trains from Upminster with a 15min walk/5min cycle from Purfleet Station. It takes a similar amount of time from Romford using the trains to Stratford, Jubilee to Westham and then C2C to Purfleet.

Free Parking is also available at the Rainham Marshes between 9.30am and 5pm.

For those feeling they could do part of the ride up / down or half up, half down, I’m hoping to create a WhatsApp group of those who sign up to notify people where we will be at what time both before and by share my live location on the day.

Possible other joining points could be Hacton Lane Car Park and Ingrebourne Hill Car Park.

There are 15 spaces on each ride. Feel free to book onto both but only do so if you are planning to do the full nearly 30km and your children can handle being out from 10-4pm (including 2 x 15-20min breaks at the South Hornchurch Park Visitor Centre) and an hour lunch break in Upminster.
