Miss Burgess Update 2/2/24

02 Feb 2024

English
Our topic‘Childhood,’ is incorporated in  English. The children have been working hard with in groups to come up with interesting sentences to write a non-chronological report on the life in the 1950s. The children have been learning about the difference between facts and opinions this week, as well as adding the suffix ‘ed’ to change verbs into past tense.
Maths
This week we have started our new topic, addition and subtraction within 20. We have been learning to add by counting on, add ones using number bonds, using numicon shapes to add within 20, and learnt to make number bonds to 20. We have also done mental maths e.g calculating and working out answers in our heads.
Other
In Science this week we have explored another one of our senses, taste! The children taste tested lots of different items. They described each taste and rated them out of 10. In History we learnt about significant event in British history, ‘Queen Elizabeth’s coronation’ and then described it. Finally, in Art we created our own portrait inspired by Pablo Picasso. We spoke about using warm and cool colours to create our image and the children enjoyed expressing their creativity and imagination through their art work.
