Miss Bates - 12 Jan 2024

Well done year 6 for a fantastic week!

We have started our ‘whole school learning journey’ in English and have been focusing on the picture book ‘Journey’. The children have worked fantastically to develop their prediction making skills as well as developing dialogue between characters based on what they think might be said. We have spent time looking at the different places the main character goes as well as creating a ‘soundscape’ where we used our voices and body parts to make music that would match the setting. We have begun writing some expanded noun phrases, focusing step by step on how to expand each one to include personification and preposition.

In maths, we have finished up our ratio topic by looking at recipes and using a recipe which serves 6 to now serve 2 or 10. Practise with baking at home would be a fantastic way to solidify this! Our new topic new next week will be algebra.

In science, we looked at how light is reflected by using torches and a mirror to make the beam of light change angles.
In history, the children have begun learning about the causes that lead to WW1 and will build on this knowledge next week by looking at the start of the war and people’s expectations going into it.

No spelling scores have been sent home this week (unfortunately) due to time constraints, however they will be sent home with the children on Monday. The children have been sent home with new spellings this week and these will also be put on EdShed for access at home. Please continue to access TTRS daily for 5 minutes a day and read 5 times a week with an adult – this should be signed in the reading record with page numbers.

Have a restful weekend and I will see you all back on Monday!
