Year 4 Summer 2 Week 3

Well done year 4 for another great week!

In English this week, we have finished writing our ancient Egypt narrative. The children have worked hard to include pronouns and inverted commas for dialogue in their stories. Next week, we will start our biography topic.

In Maths this week, we have finished our position and direction topic. The children had to translate on a grid, describe the translation and draw 2D shapes on a grid. The next few weeks we will be returning to previous topics that they have found difficult in year 4 to consolidate their learning.

In science, we followed a recipe to make our own bread. The children really enjoyed this lesson and were able to see the effects of each ingredient.

The children partcipated in Sports Day this week! They had lots of fun and we appreciate seeing so many parents show their support.

Please ensure your child is reading and completing TTRS 5 times per week.

Don't forget to bring in cardboard boxes or large plastic bottles for our project!

Year 4 Summer 2 Week 2

This week, Year 4 had a fantastic time on our school trip to Mountfitchet Castle. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the castle and learning about life in the past. We were incredibly proud of how well-behaved, respectful and enthusiastic they were throughout the day.

In Maths, we have been learning about position and direction. The children have practised reading and plotting coordinates and have used their skills to interpret information presented on line graphs.

In English, we have been planning and preparing to write our own narratives inspired by our class text, Secrets of a Sun King. The children have been developing ideas about a mysterious object discovered by their character. Alongside this, we have been focusing on using pronouns effectively to refer to characters and using inverted commas accurately to punctuate speech.

In Science, we became food scientists and made our own sherbet. We investigated how changing different ingredients affected the recipe and the final outcome, making observations about taste, texture and the reactions that took place.

This week was also Healthy Eating Week. As part of our learning, the children made a delicious garden salad and enjoyed tasting the different ingredients. It was wonderful to see so many children trying new foods and discussing the importance of making healthy choices.

Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week of learning!

A reminder that next Friday is Sports Day! Children should wear their PE kit and a T-shirt in their house colour.

Please could you bring in any small cardboard boxes or clean plastic bottles that you no longer need for our upcoming DT lessons. These materials will be used as part of a project later this term.

Thank you for your support!

Year 4 Summer 2 Week 1

Well done year 4 for completinfg your first week back!

We have had a very busy week!

In English, we have started our new topic 'narrative writing'. We have looked at a WAGOLL and identified the key features of a narrative. We have also learnt how to use and apply inverted commas and pronouns in our writing. Next week we will start planning our own narrative.

In Maths, we have started our new topic statistics. We have looked at interpreting charts, comparison, sum and difference on charts and interpreting line graphs. Next week we will learn how to draw line graphs as well as starting our new topic ' position and direction.

In shared reading, we used evidence from the text to support our answers and to write a prediction. We also ordered events from the text.

We also had a lovely science workshop today!

Also, a massive well done to year 4 for completing their MTC test!

As always ensure your child is reading and going on TTRS 5x a week.

Please find attached the newsletter and homework map for Summer 2.

Have a lovely weekend
