Year 4 Summer 2 Week 6
Well done Year 4 for another great week! The children got to meet their new teacher this week which they all enjoyed and found very exciting. They did lots of fun activities with their Year 5 teacher!
In English this week, we have been looking at features of balanced arguments in preparation to write our own. We have recapped our learning on present perfect tense as well as possibility verbs. We have planned our balanced argument all about whether schools should only serve locally produced food and how this might affect the environment. Next week, we will write our balanced argument. In Maths, we have been continuing to recap our learning across Year 4.
In Shared Reading, we have read a poem together called 'The Raven'. The children worked hard to draw a picture using their inference skills and they also answered questions based on the poem.
In Science, we have learned about food waste and the children made a fantastic poster all about how to prevent food waste and reasons why it is bad. We also finished off our learning about vehicles in D.T and they have a good understanding of how simple machines work.
Please remember to bring in plastic bags next week as we will start to send books home from Wednesday onwards. Thank you!
Have a lovely weekend!
Year 4 Summer 2 Week 5
It has been a fantastic week in Year 4 with lots of exciting learning and opportunities to celebrate together.
English
This week, we have begun our new writing unit by researching Tutankhamun. The children have used a range of sources to gather interesting facts, which they have used to write an informative biography all about the famous pharaoh. They have shown excellent research skills and have enjoyed finding out more about Ancient Egypt. Next week, we will start writing a balanced argument.
Shared reading
In Shared Reading, we finished our class novel, Secrets of a Sun King. The children thoroughly enjoyed following Lil’s adventure through Ancient Egypt and completed thoughtful book reviews, reflecting on their favourite characters, events and what they learned throughout the story.
Maths
In Maths, we have continued to consolidate our learning by revisiting a range of word problems and money problems. The children have been applying the strategies they have learned throughout the year to solve increasingly challenging questions with confidence and resilience.
Shared learning and Brady Fest
This week, we were delighted to welcome parents into school for our Shared Learning session. As part of our Design and Technology learning about wheels, axles and machinery, the children worked alongside their families to design and make their own vehicles. It was wonderful to see everyone working together so creatively, and we would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who took the time to join us.
We were also incredibly proud of 4S, who performed their class assembly to parents this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their learning and performed with confidence, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour. They represented Year 4 brilliantly and we couldn’t be prouder of them.
To finish the week, the children had a fantastic time at Brady Fest, enjoying the bouncy castles and exploring the different activities. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to celebrate together and have fun with their friends.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
Year 4 Summer 2 Week 3
Well done year 4 for another great week!
In English this week, we have finished writing our ancient Egypt narrative. The children have worked hard to include pronouns and inverted commas for dialogue in their stories. Next week, we will start our biography topic.
In Maths this week, we have finished our position and direction topic. The children had to translate on a grid, describe the translation and draw 2D shapes on a grid. The next few weeks we will be returning to previous topics that they have found difficult in year 4 to consolidate their learning.
In science, we followed a recipe to make our own bread. The children really enjoyed this lesson and were able to see the effects of each ingredient.
The children partcipated in Sports Day this week! They had lots of fun and we appreciate seeing so many parents show their support.
Please ensure your child is reading and completing TTRS 5 times per week.
Don't forget to bring in cardboard boxes or large plastic bottles for our project!
