Year 4 summer 1 week 6
Well done year 4 for completing the last week of Summer 1 term!
In English, we have written our final drafts of our informal letter. The children included the key skills of paragraphs and informal language. They wrote amazing final drafts!
In maths, we have finished our topic on shapes. We learnt about polygons, lines of symmetry and how to complete a line of symmetry. We will come back to this topic next half term to revisit names of shapes.
In shared reading, we have continues reading the secrets of a sun king. The children learnt how to give reasons for their opinions and find evidence from the text to support their answers.
In R.E, we have learnt about the Jewish ceremony which shows a child has become an adult, called Bar/ Bat Mitzvah. They created lovely posters on what happens during the celebration and how to prepare for it.
As always, please ensure your child is reading and going on TTRS 5x a week.
There is also an additional app that parents/ children can download to play on as part of a competition between other schools. This app is from language angles, which we use for French lessons. The children can collect points, and it will be added to our school total points where we could win a cash prize!

Well done for completing another week!
In English, we have started planning our informal letter to dad as Lil from The secrets of a sun king. The children will start writing their first draft, editing and final draft next week using all the skills they have learnt.
In shared reading, they have summarised key events across the chapter, retrieved answers from across a chapter and made reasonable predictions.
In Maths, we have started our shape topic. This week, we have understood angles as a turn, identified angles, compared and ordered angles, learnt about tringles and quadrilaterals
In science, we have looked at endangered animals, and the children have created a lovely poster/fact file on a chosen endangered animal.
In geography, we named and located significant mountains using an atlas.
As always, make sure your child is reading and going on TTRS 5 times a week.

Well done year 4 for completing another week!
In English, we have started our new topic ‘ informal letter writing’. We have looked at a WAGOLL and identified the key features. We have also identified and used informal language and using paragraphs in our writing. Next week, we will start planning and using these key skills.
In shared reading, we have learned how to recognise different word types within a text, finding evidence from the text to support our answers and writing down our impressions about a character from the text.
In Maths, we have been revising our time topic. We have gone over converting from a 12 hour clock to a 24 hour clock, writing the time and looking at time word problems.
In art, the children have created amazing mountain landscaped using water colours!
We also had our school disco this week, all the children looked amazing!
