Year 3 Summer 2 Week 3
Well done, Year 3- another fantastic week at school!
In English this week, we have been working on using volume and expression when reading poetry. The children have really enjoyed practising their performance skills and exploring the meaning behind different poems.
In Maths, we finished our topic on Shapes and have now moved into Statistics. We have been learning how to take information from a table and present it in a pictogram.
In Science, we continued our work on Curious Critters. We created our own compost boxes using old fruit and vegetables, bark, and sand. These have been left outside, and over the next few weeks we will observe whether any insects begin to decompose the materials.
In History, we learned about the Roman Empire’s attempts to invade Scotland. We explored why the Romans wanted to invade and why their attempts were unsuccessful.
This afternoon, KS2 had an amazing time at Sports Day. Despite the high temperatures, all of the children performed brilliantly and had lots of fun.
Next week is Assessment Week, so lessons will look a little different.
As always, please continue to read five times a week and play TTRS for five minutes, five times a week.
Please also see the attached spellings for this week.
Year 3 Summer 2 Week 2
Well done year 3 for another amazing week at school!
In English this week, we worked really hard using our skills of choosing the correct determiner (a or an) and using simple past tense in our writing. We also finished our research and biography write about Boudicca! Next week we will be moving on to performance poetry!
In maths this week, we continued our topic of shape. We have been looking at parallel lines, perpendicular lines and the features of 2D and 3D shapes!
In science this week, we continued our work on curious critters. We went around the school playground investigating different microhabitats and what insects may be living in them!
In history this week, we looked closely at Boudicca’s rebellion against the Roman Empire. This really helped us gain more facts to write in our Boudica biography’s.
This afternoon, as part of our Healthy Eating topic in PSHE, year 3 got the chance to chop up slices of watermelon and feta cheese! We all have a great time enjoying a healthy snack!
As always please continue to read 5 times a week and play on TTRS for 5 minutes a time, 5 times a week.
Please also see attached the spellings for this week!
Just a reminder that our PSHE topic this half term is 'relationships' and year 3 are focusing on touch. As we will be covering this topic, we will be looking at the scientific names for private body parts. If you have any questions please speak to Miss Bates.
Have a wonderful weekend!
