Year 2
Class News
Year 2 8.5.2026
Despite a shorter week due to the bank holiday and polling day, the children have made a positive start to their learning.
Maths
In Maths, we have begun our new statistics unit. The children have been learning about pictograms and tally charts and have shown great understanding and enthusiasm. They have worked hard to collect, represent and interpret data, and it has been lovely to see how confident they are becoming with this area of maths.
English
In English, we have started a new unit on descriptive writing, with a focus on character descriptions. We have been looking at famous British monarchs, discussing their appearance, personality and key characteristics. The children will be working towards writing a character description of the infamous King Henry VIII, and they have been very engaged with this exciting historical focus.
Topic
Due to it being a three-day week, we have not had much time to spend on our wider topic learning. We will be picking this up again in more detail next week.
Art
In Art, the children have begun exploring digital portraits. They are enjoying learning how to create artwork using digital tools and are starting to experiment with different techniques and styles.
Year 2 Summer 1 Week 3
This week in Year 2 has been a busy and exciting one! In Maths, the children have continued their focus on clocks and successfully concluded the topic on Friday. They have shown great perseverance and understanding when telling the time.
In English, we finished our big rrite unit on fables. The children worked incredibly hard to write their own stories, and we were so impressed with the creativity and effort they showed. The remainder of the week was very oracy‑focused, with pupils performing poetry in front of the whole class—everyone showed fantastic confidence and expression.
In History, we continued our learning about monarchs, while in Science we explored seeds and began to understand how plants grow. On Thursday, we also had our class photograph taken, and we’re looking forward to seeing the results!
In Art, the children carried on exploring famous portraits of magnificent monarchs and then used these as inspiration to sketch their own portraits. The results have been wonderful.
Well done, Year 2, for another great week of learning!
