Reception Summer 1 Week 3

We have had a very exciting week in Reception.

In Maths we have been learning all about shape. We have looked at 2D shapes and their properties and we have started to look at some 3D shapes including, cube, sphere, cylinder and square based pyramid. Next week we will focus on 3D shapes and their properites.

In Topic this week we have been learning about minibeasts. We went on a minibeast hunt in the garden and drew pictures our findings. We also looked at the life cycle of a butterfly and drew a picture of our own butterfly, writing simple sentences to describe how it looked.

We ended our week with Aspirations Day! Pupils dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up, we discussed what jobs we want to do and why! We also had some lovely visitors to talk about their career including a paramedic.

Have a lovely weekend!

Reception Summer 1 Week 2
24/04/2026 4:04 PM

In Maths this week we have explored both addition and subtraction. We are starting to count beyond 20 and working on simple number sentences. Next week, we will be exploring shape.

We have had an amazing 2 weeks looking after the chicks and were very sad to see them go! We completed our chick diaries and had lots of goodbye cuddles.

We were also very lucky to have a visit from PC Drew as part of aspirations month. He spoke about how we can stay safe in our local community and discussed his job role.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Reception Summer 1 Week 5

Well done for another amazing week Reception!

This week we have been learning about sharing and grouping. Everyone could confidently share objects equally and group objects making sure they have the same amount in each group. Next week, we will be focusing on doubles and learning that a double is by adding the same numbers together.

In Topic this week we read the story of 'The enormous turnip'. We sequenced the story using picture cards and made sure they were in chronological order. Pupils used words such as; first, next, then and finally.

We discussed what characters were in the story and used adjectives to describe the turnip. Pupils then wrote sentences in their books about the turnip. Well done everyone!

Reception Summer 1 Week 4

A short but fun week in Reception.

We started our week off with an extremely fun visit from ScootFit! We practised our scooter skills and got to dance and sing while doing it.

We have been consolidating our knoweldge of 3D shapes. The pupils have become very confident at recognising, naming and describing the properties of 3D shapes.  If you want to practise at home you can listen to this catchy song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A.

Our story of the week is Erroll's Garden. Erroll creates an amazing rooftop garden for all of his neighbours to enjoy. We spoke about what plants need to grow and labelled the different parts of a plant. We have been spending lots of time in our outdoor areas, working hard to create a beautiful garden of our own.

We had brilliant fun at the disco on Tuesday - thank you to FOB for organising it!

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
