Rainbow Room Summer 2 Week 5
The pupils have been working very hard this week.
The core word was 'make' this week. The pupils enjoyed mixing cornflour and water on the tray using different tools, we also added colour using crepe paper. This prompted lots of "make", "scoop" and "pour" vocabulary and actions as well as some mark making.
In phonics, the pupils used playdough mats to form letters and have really enjoyed the phonics songs again this week.
Maths has been a huge success this week and the pupils have been enjoying 10 Green Bottles. It has been wonderful to watch them grow in confidence and independence.
Sensory play activities were combined with fine motor skills this week and we planted grass heads. We are looking forward to watching these grow! The pupils all did a great job of following the instructions! They have also enjoyed accessing the fine motor activities throughout the day and have become more skilled and at completing tasks.
Next week will see us beginning the social stories about the upcoming summer holidays. If you have any exciting plans that you would like me to incorporate for your child, please let me know - thank you.

Rainbow Room Summer 2 Week 3
It has been a sunny week in the Rainbow Room and we have enjoyed being in the garden.
Our core words this week were 'this' and 'that'. We completed some colour matching using the phrases 'this colour' and 'that colour' which the children really enjoyed.
In phonics, the pupils have been learning the sounds ur, er, ow, ai and oa. After the success last week we used playdough to form the sounds again but this time the playdough was mint scented.
In maths, the children started using the 10 green bottles manipulatives. They did such a great job with the 5 Little Men and this has been a huge hit.
In sensory play, the pupils used coloured cornflour water to paint in the playground, they dug using soaked oats, ice block painting and we crafted glued some crepe paper to make Father's Day cards.

Rainbow Room Summer 1 Week 6
Just like that...Summer 1 is complete!
This week our core word was 'put'. The children practised mark making the word and used their fine motor skills to 'put' the letters in the letter box or to 'put' the disc on the peg. The children were fantastic at this - well done everyone. We have seen a lot of fantastic progress in the pupils fine motor development this half term.
The phonics sounds this week were ar, or, air and ir. This is one of the highlights everyday, we all enjoy phonics sessions and complete mark making to continue the brilliant fine motor development.
In maths we completed a numeracy day activity by seeing how many balls we could put in a bucket in 1 minute.
We have continued to discuss the weather daily, this will continue next half term. This is something you can continue doing at home as well, alongside our weather song:

The sensory play has been another highlight. Green spaghetti, fruit slices, edible soil, banana dough and ooblek Fridays!
It has been great getting the water out in the warmer weather, the pupils all love splashing and pouring.
Please continue offering your child different writing tools to continue their mark making over the holidays - crayons, pencils, pens, paintbrushes with coloured water - everything counts!
Have a restful break and we will return on Tuesday 2nd June.
