Rainbow Room Summer 1 week 4
It has been a short week this week but we still filled our days with lots of learning and activities.
The core word/s of the week were, is/are. The pupils engaged with music that included these words and practised mark making using a variety of different tools such as paint sticks and pens.
In maths, we continued counting little men in a flying saucer and 10 green bottles. This is one of the most popular parts of our day and the pupils are learning to remove one little man at a time, aligned with the nursery rhyme! Fantastic work and great focus from everyone.
In phonics, our sounds have been nk, ay and ee. This has become quite a noisy part of our day with brilliant concentration and vocalising from several children.
Sensory play has focused on scooping and mixing this week. We have used edible sand (cereal), sea (jelly) and ooblek. The pupils really enjoyed feeling the two different textures; the dry, grainy sand and the slimy, slippery jelly. It was a great opportunity to practise holding a spoon, using a mixing motion and a scooping action.
The garden has been popular again this week with the wind blowing in the leaves creating lots of sensory input.
Have a restful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
Rainbow Room Summer 1 Week 3
We have had a great week in the Rainbow Room.
In our English lessons the pupils learnt about the core word 'it'. We used a cushion and the phrase and 'pass it' to help the children with their comprehension. Our phonics sounds this week were ch, qu, x and ng. They were all very engaged and were mark making beautifully using felt tip pens, pencils and crayons.
Our maths lessons have been focusing on 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer and 10 green bottles. The pupils have developed a great understanding of losing 1 little man with each turn.
Our weather focus this week is the sun and the rain. We have created some beautiful suncatchers using glue and tissue paper on laminated sheets. Keep an eye out for these in the Rainbow Room garden.
Fine motor activities this week captured lots of attention. We used rolling pins to crush cereal, completed lots of playdough stamping and practised mark making with various different mediums.
Don't forget to apply sunscreen each morning and send a hat in with your child.
Have a restful weekend.
