Rainbow Room Summer 1 Week 6
Just like that...Summer 1 is complete!
This week our core word was 'put'. The children practised mark making the word and used their fine motor skills to 'put' the letters in the letter box or to 'put' the disc on the peg. The children were fantastic at this - well done everyone. We have seen a lot of fantastic progress in the pupils fine motor development this half term.
The phonics sounds this week were ar, or, air and ir. This is one of the highlights everyday, we all enjoy phonics sessions and complete mark making to continue the brilliant fine motor development.
In maths we completed a numeracy day activity by seeing how many balls we could put in a bucket in 1 minute.
We have continued to discuss the weather daily, this will continue next half term. This is something you can continue doing at home as well, alongside our weather song:

The sensory play has been another highlight. Green spaghetti, fruit slices, edible soil, banana dough and ooblek Fridays!
It has been great getting the water out in the warmer weather, the pupils all love splashing and pouring.
Please continue offering your child different writing tools to continue their mark making over the holidays - crayons, pencils, pens, paintbrushes with coloured water - everything counts!
Have a restful break and we will return on Tuesday 2nd June.
Rainbow Room Summer 1 Week 5
In English this week the pupils have been learning the core word 'get'. We followed a song called Get Funky, which the pupils all enjoyed.
In phonics, we learnt the sounds igh, ow, oo and oo. The mark making in these sessions is improving every day - well done everyone!
There has been a lot of different textures in sensory play this week. We dug carrots out of soil (flour, oil and cocoa), used our fingers to move flour over a rainbow, moon sand and gluing strips of paper to make a rainbow.
The playdough was scented with white chocolate this week and the pupils spent some time developing strength in their hands whilst stamping and cutting out shapes.
The fine motor activities have been very popular this week, placing discs on pegs, posting letters in letter boxes and hammering pegs.
The weather looks like it might be warming up at the end of next week, please make sure your child has sunscreen applied before coming to school - thank you.
Rainbow Room Summer 1 week 4
It has been a short week this week but we still filled our days with lots of learning and activities.
The core word/s of the week were, is/are. The pupils engaged with music that included these words and practised mark making using a variety of different tools such as paint sticks and pens.
In maths, we continued counting little men in a flying saucer and 10 green bottles. This is one of the most popular parts of our day and the pupils are learning to remove one little man at a time, aligned with the nursery rhyme! Fantastic work and great focus from everyone.
In phonics, our sounds have been nk, ay and ee. This has become quite a noisy part of our day with brilliant concentration and vocalising from several children.
Sensory play has focused on scooping and mixing this week. We have used edible sand (cereal), sea (jelly) and ooblek. The pupils really enjoyed feeling the two different textures; the dry, grainy sand and the slimy, slippery jelly. It was a great opportunity to practise holding a spoon, using a mixing motion and a scooping action.
The garden has been popular again this week with the wind blowing in the leaves creating lots of sensory input.
Have a restful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
