Week 2

09 May 2019

Literacy

This week in Literacy, Year 5 have been continuing with narrative poetry. They have planned and produced a narrative poem. They worked hard to include figurative language, alliteration, portmanteau and to write in the style of a ballad poem.

Maths
In Maths we have been focusing on measurement. The children have been converting between metric units of measure. They have made lots of progress in this since the last time we covered it, so well done! The children were also introduced to imperial units of measure today, saying which unit of measure would be best to measure in different situations, as well as converting between imperial and metric units of measure.

Topic
This week we tried our hand at cloning plants! Year 5 took cuttings from geranium plants and planted them in a glass of water. We are hoping that the cuttings will be successful and we will see them growing their own roots!

Please remember that shared learning for Year 5 is next Friday 17th May. I hope as many of you as possible can make it, as the children enjoy sharing this time with their parents in the classroom. We will be creating our own (not quite so mini) mini beasts wtih paper mache!
