Spring 2 week 4

21 Mar 2019

A big thank you to all of the parents who attended parents evening this week. It was lovely to share the fantastic progress your child is making with you this year! This has been a mixed week as our student teacher, Mr East, is leaving us tomorrow. The children have had a fantastic time with him over the last 8 weeks and he will be missed!

Literacy

This week in year 5, the children have begun a new genre of writing;narrative. The children have been looking at the history of Highway men and using their evidence to predict what the narrative and character may be in the poem ‘The Highway Man’.

Maths

In maths, the children have been focusing on fractions this week. They have revisited comparing and ordering fractions, as well as mixed numbers and improper fractions. The children used this knowledge to help them to add and subtract fractions.

Topic

This week in art we looked at the surrealist art of Dali, specifically his work ‘persistence of memory’. The children used this painting to think of their own ideas of how they could represent time in their art work. The children took great care to produce this using acrylic paints.
