Week 2
17 Jan 2019
Literacy
In Literacy this week, we have continued working towards our hot write for a biography about Henry VIII. We have discovered lots of fascinating facts about the King, and have all agreed he would have been quite frightening to know in real life! We have been practising how to use cohesive devices in our writing, which we are beginning to understand better now. Tomorrow the children will complete their hot write - I can't wait to read their finished biographies.
Maths
I have been so impressed with the children's hard work in Maths this week. We have been learning the relationship between percentages, fractions and decimals, and how to convert one into the other. This is a tricky skill and I have been so pleased with how focussed the children have been and how well they have progressed in this area of Maths. We have begun working on perimeter with compound shapes and will move on to learning how to find the area of shapes next week in our Maths lessons.
Off with her head
This week in our Cornerstones lessons we have been looking at how physical and human features of locations can change. We have been comparing London in Tudor times to the modern London we know today. Children drew pictures of both and wrote comparisons. We also looked at the artist Hans Holbein in art, and discussed what we could tell about Henry VIII from his portrait.
We are looking forward to seeing as many parents as possible for our shared learning session next Monday! Bring your best poses as this may involve some portrait sitting! If you cannot make it, I will put photos on the website so you can see what we have done.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss West :)
