Year 3 Week 3

16 May 2019

Literacy
This week the children finished planning their diary entries, responding to verbal feedback and editing them. They then completed a ‘hot write’. We have now started to look at persuasive advertising posters as next week we will be creating posters to sell Lila’s new, amazing firework invention. They thought of interesting vocabulary that would help to sell their products and created a plan.

Maths
In Maths the children have been focusing on 2D and 3D shapes. They have been recognising, drawing and making models of 3D shapes. The children have been working really hard to draw the shapes accurately to the nearest millimeter. Next week we will be focusing on adding and subtracting fractions and recapping equivalent fractions.

Topic
The children have really enjoyed learning about rocks this week. To begin we recapped how different types of rocks are formed then we baked a ‘metamorphic rock cake’. The children were very excited about this! In computing the children enjoyed using a program called Scratch. They were able to program their Sprite to move and some were able to record messages for their Sprite to say. The children continued to learn about volcanoes and they considered why people live near them. The children also learned about how volcanoes erupt, then they made a volcano erupt during our experiment. What a busy week!
