Superworm!!
Mrs Divall - 11 Oct 2015
Hello all,
What a lovely week we had again in Reception last week.
This week, we are learning g, o, c, k in phonics.
We will be identifying nouns that begin with these sounds and we will be using all of the sounds learnt to date to segment and blend words. Would you be interested in a phonics workshop the first week back after half term? I could show you how we teach phonics and the kind of skills we are focussing on this term?
In our other literacy lessons, we will be pracitising forming these letters, using cornflour, flour, paint and whiteboard pens. We will be drawing our favourite superhero and attempting to label their features using inital sounds (e.g. s for super, m for man. If your child can do this, we will be encouraging them to hear the middle and end sounds in words , e.g. m-a-n.)
This week we are reading the story superworm and in our science based lessons we are looking for minibeasts, identifying them and describing their features.
In circle time, we will be talking about what superpower we would choose, if we were superheroes.
In maths, we will be ordering plastic worms of different lengths. We will be using everyday langauage associated with length e.g. longest, shortest, longer than, shorter than.
We will also be 'weight lifting' and using everyday langauage to describe weight e.g. lighter than, heavier than, the lightest, the heaviest. We will also be focussing on counting objects reliably to 10 and beyond. We will be learning to form and recgonise number 7 and number 8.
We will have library time and music with Mr Wright on Tuesday afternoon.
I am out of school on a course on Tuesday, 'British Values in the EYFS.' This is something that school inspectors have been particularly interested in recently, so I am going to learn about new initatives that may be positive for our children at Brady.
I hope you are having a good weekend, see you in the morning!
